A story I wrote for English.
Ronnie picked up her blue bucket. Sighing, she filled it with water from the rain water tank. Then back and forth she went, between the vegetable garden. She watered the carrots. She watered the sprouts. She water the capsicums.
She couldn't understand why her mother insisted on growing vegetables. They only lived a ten minute drive from a supermarket, and they were a well off enough with money to afford the over priced produce from the store. Staring back at the big old house, she thought of her father as he was growing sicker and sicker.
"He just keeps losing weight and he doesn't even eating these stupid vegetables," Ronnie murmured angrily to herself."Why am I bothering?"
But still, on her mother's wishes she continued to water the vegetables at the end of every day. And sometimes she could even collect some in her blue bucket. Ronnie liked picking the vegetables. She didn't like watering them.
One day Ronnie realised she hadn't watered the vegetables. She didn't worry though She'd just water them tomorrow. The next afternoon, however, she was devaststed to find her mother's garden dead. Worrying, she rushed back inside trying to avoid her mother.
"The corn should be ready. Could you bring some in?" her mother called from the kitchen.
In panic, Ronnie rushed outside, hung her blue bucket from her bike handle and flew to the store. With the little pocket money she had, she bought the store's corn.
She returned home and while she was red in the face, her mother didn't question her panting. Her mother sang as she made corn soup and Ronnie relaxed on the front porch.
An hour later the mood had changed dramatically. Ronnie realised why her mother had boycotted the supermarket, staring down on her father who lay in the same state as the garden her mother was crying in.
Dead.
